Hale Leys United have been presented with the South Midlands League Team of the Month award for November.
Having won all 18 league games this season, Hale were due to entertain Totternhoe for their first game of the new year on Saturday, only for heavy rain to force a postponement.
Manager Paul Alleyne said: “I’m disappointed to see the fixture be postponed because I know the boys were up for the game today and having it called off an hour before kick-off was disheartening.
“We now have a tough few fixtures ahead as we travel to Brimsdown next week. We then have no fixture on January 24 before returning on 31 for the reverse fixture against local rivals Aston Clinton, which won’t be an easy game.
“However, it will allow us more time to prepare as we still have to play our closest team in the running for the title twice and it’ll also allow New Bradwell St Peter to close the gap on us as they currently have three games in hand.
“The short break will allow our injured players to recover as we currently have two or three injuries.”
On being named Team of the Month, Alleyne added: “I am very pleased to be presented with this award as it shows that all of our hard work is paying off and I’m glad that the league recognise what we are trying to do at the club.”
Chairman Roger Simmons said: “As I’m sure you are aware there is a lot of work that goes on to deliver a winning Spartan South Midlands team from behind the scenes to on the pitch so it is very rewarding to be acknowledged by the league for our efforts.
“I know that Paul, Roni, John and the team work tirelessly for this club and this is recognition for them and I’m very pleased to accept the award on behalf of them it shows we are moving forward as a club.”
