Hale Leys United were without a match at the weekend after they were selected to represent the Spartan South Midlands League in the FA Inter League Cup last week.
Held at Chatham FC last Wednesday, a goal in each half saw the SSMFL XI run out deserved 2-1 winners over the Kent County League for their first win in the competition.
The Aylesbury outfit were in the ascendency for much of the encounter and although the final scoreline suggests a tight match, Paul Alleyne’s side were comfortable winners with Kent scoring a consolation goal in injury time.
Alleyne said afterwards: “It was a good game to watch and I’m pleased with the boys’ performance on the night as some of them had not played many minutes together before this game, but they made up for it with hard work.
“I am very happy we won the fixture for the Spartan South Midlands League as this was their first win in the competition. Well done to the boys who played – they were a credit to the league.”
SSML vice-chairman Mr Scholes added: “Well done to Paul Alleyne and his team for an excellent performance.
“The FA Inter League Cup is now in its fourth season and after defeats at the hands of the Sussex League and the Jersey League, not only was this our first win in the competition, but Nathan Graham’s goal in the third minute was also our first goal in the competition, so credit to him and his team-mates.”
Hale leys return to their league campaign this weekend when they entertain Pitstone & Ivinghoe at 3pm.
