In a display of real class and quality in this pulsating game, all four goals, two either side of half-time, were either scored or created by Goss who enjoyed a starring role.

FC were out of the blocks immediately, a Jamie Rudd quick-fire cross caused concern for the defence, followed by a Jonny Montgomery effort where only an outstretched leg prevented a goal.

Gareth Price had an excellent game and he was denied by away keeper Anthony Ender on just four minutes before his chip cleared the crossbar.

Chances were coming thick and fast as Brian Haule flicked a header just wide and then sent a piledriver just the wrong side of the post.

Eventually, the breakthrough arrived when, on 23 minutes, Rob Tomlin hit an overhead kick forward which caused real panic in the away defence and a poor defensive header was seized upon by Goss who poked home.

Goss soon had a second when a ball found the young forward on the edge of the box and with a skilful side foot, he placed the ball past the keeper and into the bottom corner.

James Weatherill made one of few saves early in the second half, denying Jamie Ford’s header, before normal service resumed as Goss grabbed the ball and with skills aplenty, he fed the ball to Price whose low blast contained too much venom for Ender with the effort going under the keeper for 3-0.

Goss then capped a fine night on the stroke of full-time when he gleefully swept home much to the delight of team-mates and supporters.
