Ducks remain precariously placed after leaders ease to victory

It was the Ducks who got off to a flying start when Greg Williams fired home a free-kick from outside the box after a just six minutes.

Apart from a Steve Ward shot that was deflected for a corner, Kings struggled to produce any fluency on a good playing surface and United sensed that an upset may be on the cards.

But with half an hour gone, a partially cleared corner fell to the predatory Mitchell Weiss who turned on the ball and found the net via the outstretched hand of Zaki Oualah and the inside of the post.

A Ryan Plowright shot was acrobatically tipped over by Oualah, but the interval arrived with little further of interest to note.

The Ducks may have felt rightly pleased with parity, but they met a very different Kings side after the break.

Stevie Ward almost immediately produced a trademark dribbling run, hugging the touchline then the bye-line to beat three defenders and squaring for left-back Callum Adebiyi to finish at the far post.

Two further well engineered moves saw shots by David Hutton and Dean Hitchcock go the wrong side of bar and post respectively, but the tide was now one-way.

The visitors virtually settled the contest with an exquisite inter-passing move that saw Hutton find Weiss centrally, and a confident backheel allowed Ward to beat Oualah from close range.

Minutes later, a Dean Hitchcock through-ball gave Weiss his second when the assistant referee’s flag stayed down and he finished well.

United were unlucky to be denied a reply when Williams hit the angle of bar and post with a stunning 20-yard shot, but defeat had been long since confirmed.
