Ducks hit five against Winslow in friendly

Winslow United boss Scott Reynolds remained upbeat following his side’s 5-0 defeat to Southern League side Aylesbury United in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday.

Goals from Paul Edgeworth, Taylor Collins and Ash Farmer plus a Stacey Field brace sealed a straightforward win for the Ducks, and Reynolds was impressed by the strength of his side’s opponents.

He said: “We played against a full strength Aylesbury United, who have made several new signings and they certainly look a lot stronger than last season when we played them.

“Again, we had players missing through injury, work and other commitments but a strong squad of 13, plus young Ollie Golding who took to the challenge.

“We addressed the issue of conceding early goals in training last week and Saturday morning, therefore needing to be more compact and hard working as a unit from the start. We did this perfectly well last night, for 30 minutes we were in the game and had half chances of our own.

“Sadly, once the first goal went in, our commitment to the shape and focus dropped off. Which again proved that if you switch off against better players you get punished. Aylesbury finished nearly every chance they had, and then pegged us back for the whole of the second half.

“Again, we must dust off, take the positives from the first half an hour and learn. We have one more game next Tuesday, and potentially one Saturday if I can sort one out, to prepare for the start of the season next weekend.

“Yes we would love to be winning games at this moment in time, but we are playing against better sides and players than what we will face in our league and therefore we have to stay positive and keep working hard.”
