Aylesbury FC withstood a strong second half performance from bottom side North Greenford United to run out 3-2 winners on Tuesday evening and move up to sixth.

Ben Stevens, Jeanmal Prosper, Grant Fryer, Danny Gordon, Kyle Anthony, Brian & Davis Haule, Aston Goss, Kieron Schmidt and Terry Dixon were all unavailable for this game, so it was all the more impressive that FC led 3-0 inside 35 minutes.

Adrian Pittfield made his full debut at right-back, Rob Tomlin moved to the centre of defence to partner Adam Logie and Ben Bateman came into the side for his first start in a few months.

Moles were quick out of the blocks as the impressive Eddie Smith set up Jon Montgomery for the opener inside just four minutes.

Smith doubled the lead on 28 minutes when Lynton Goss was upended in the box for a stonewall penalty and the new striker slotted home.

And six minutes after that it was 3-0 when Gareth Price latched onto a through ball and finished clinically.

Greenford ensured it wouldn’t be all plain sailing, though as Kinsella pulled one goal back five minutes into the second half before Hind converted a penalty to reduce the deficit to 3-2.

A nervy final 30 minutes ensued but Aylesbury defended well and saw out the remaining time to claim a vital victory.

Aylesbury are now up to sixth in Division One Central of the Southern League, five points off the play-offs with two games in hand.

The Moles have back-to-back games against teams at the bottom over the next few days, first hosting Leighton Town on Saturday before they welcome local rivals Aylesbury United to Haywood Way next Tuesday.
