Aylesbury FC manager Steve Bateman was full of praise for the club’s youngsters after their U18s team were crowned county champions.
The young Moles ran out comfortable 3-0 winners against Taplow Boys in the final held at Marlow FC on Sunday, and Bateman is now keen to see the youngsters push on with the first team.
He said: “It’s a fantastic achievement. The’re enjoying a very good season and there’s some good talent coming through.
“We spent a lot of time in the summer looking at what to do next with the youth setup. We got Paul Bonham on board and he’s hit the ground running.
“We added to the group that were left last year and this success is reward for all their hard work.
“Now the challenge for me is to see if we can nurture that talent and get them involved with the first team. A few of those boys have featured at various times this year and it’s great for us as a club.
“We need to make sure that they’re given that opportunity to push on for our club and make sure we’re not a breeding ground for other sides.
“Of course you can’t keep everybody and it’s unusual to get a whole youth team to progress, but some of those boys need to be given an opportunity and we’ll be looking at that where possible between now and the end of the season and get those players some more involvement with the first team.”
