Back-to-back league wins for Aston Clinton

Aston Clinton travelled to Clean Slate on Tuesday night looking to make it back-to-back wins in the league and to bounce back from Saturday's defeat to Hale Leys United.

Aston had seven first team players missing and then after 30 minutes keeper Aaron White got injured, resulting in reserve team centre half Chris Murdoch coming on as sub in goal.

Nevertheless, Aston started well with chances falling to Lamar Mason Williams whose effort was well saved by the Clean Slate goalkeeper.

Aston finally took the lead when a corner routine fell to Jack Page who hammered home.

Five minutes later and a different corner routine resulted in the ball falling to centre back William Harrison who hit it on the half volley into the net.

Aston were cruising at this stage and could have had more at half-time as Jake Page almost scored a stunning solo goal before the same man hit the post.

Only five minutes of the second half had elapsed when Page finally got his goal, beating three players and sliding through the goalkeeper’s legs, and that’s how it finished despite further chances.

Manager Jordan King said: “This win today was for Smithy who hasn’t been involved recently due to family reasons and it was all about righting the wrongs from Saturday and making sure we got the three points.

“It’s particularly pleasing to score two goals from corners which we have been working on in training recently. Also well done to the young reserve lads to stepped up today.

“We go again Saturday against local rivals Tring Corinthians which is bound to be a tough game.”
