A fantastic 50 as unbeatable Tring men reach their half century

Over the course of two and a half seasons, the Tring team have played 50, won 45 and drawn five, scoring 290 goals and conceding only 58; an exceptional feat at any level of sport.

This week’s unfortunate victims were West Hampstead who were outplayed from the start as Tring move up to third in the table and continue their hot streak.

There was further good news for the club as the Tring U10 mixed team bagged bronze medals after finishing third at the Bedford Junior Tournament.

Playing against predominantly larger and stronger clubs didn’t put off Tring’s little warriors as they won five out of seven games in their group, with the goals shared between Ruby Jeffs, Cameron Saywell and Sam Bateman.

A single draw and a solitary 1-0 loss to Shefford & Sandy meant Tring were through to the third and fourth place play-offs where they recorded a convincing 2-0 triumph against St Ives to take bronze.

Following the U10s up to Bedford, the U12s played some outstanding hockey against stronger sides from the larger clubs.

Despite two convincing wins and four draws, the team finished third in their group which meant they just missed out on a chance for medals.

There was some classy goalscoring from Helena Van Hullen and Henry Hartley, but it was Freddie Webb’s reverse stick double that took the plaudits.

Elsewhere, the men’s 2s travelled to Milton Keynes 4s on Saturday and suffered a 4-0 defeat.

Unfortunately an inability to defend at one end coupled with the lack of goalscoring touch at the other means Tring’s losing run continues.

Meanwhile, braving a very wet Saturday, the ladies’ 1s registered a 3-0 win as they played some classic hockey against Welwyn II.

They fought well in defence and utilised their chances in attack which finally took them off the bottom of the league table.

In another good display, the men’s 3s won 3-0 against Eastcote thanks to a Tom Grainger hat-trick.

Two of the goals were set up by Dillon Hall from the right wing and one from Alastair Claringbold from the left.

Steve Dutch and Max Swift controlled the midfield in what was an extremely well organised display. Owen Hillair-Brady looked a natural playing out of position at right back.

It was not such good news for the ladies’ second team, however, as they lost 4-1 to Saffron Walden 4s.

Tring conceded four goals before half-time, but they pulled together for an excellent second half and were rewarded with Bea Park’s goal.
