D&T junior athletes on sparkling form in Ware

The young team was only a few points behind second-place Herts Phoenix, with an experienced team from Havering topping the table.

Stand-out results came from all age groups, highlighted by winning performances from U17 boys Chenna Okoh and Jackson Cowans. Okoh ran a new PB of 10.9s to win the 100m, with his time vaulting him to ninth overall in the UK for the year to date.

Cowans, meanwhile, leapt 13.06m in the triple jump; a huge new PB which leaves him eighth overall in the UK for the age group. Also winning their events were Rhys Rowlands in the 1,500m and Michael Fryer in the pole vault.

Kristian Imroth led from the start to win the U15 boys’ 1,500m in 4m 40s, while Adam Jolly racked up another win in the U13 boys’ 800m in a time of 2m 26s.

Jamie Bailey was third in the U13 boys’ 1,500m in a superb new PB of 5m 11s, with Freddie Truman-Williams one second behind, also in a new PB, to head the B string race.

The U17 girls also had some superb results. Olive Cole won the 800m in a fast 2m 25s and took second in the 300m with a PB of 43.3s, while team-mate Grace Birdseye led from the gun to win the 1,500m in a new PB of 5m 23s.

Shot putters Mia O’Connell and Natasha Tenty won the A and B strings in 9.55m and 6.86, respectively. Charlotte Radcliffe finished second in the 100m B with 13.4s, Emily Higgins was second in the 300m B in 50.8s, and Amber Carroll claimed second in both the 80m hurdles in 13.0s and the javelin in 19.91m.

Amy Wright achieved a new PB of 25.63m to finish second in the U15 girls’ hammer, while in the U13 girls’ age group, Millie Gall won the long jump with a leap of 4.63m. She also finished second in the 100m with a new PB of 13.7s and posted another PB of 28.8s in the 200m.

Tia Stonehouse, leader of the UK age group rankings for javelin, threw 25.16m to take the win and Emma Walker finished third in the 1,500m with a new PB of 5m 51s.

At 10 years old, Olivia Edwards is too young to compete in the EYAL matches but that didn’t stop her – she took part in the 1.5k road race in St Albans and finished second in the U12 girls’ race – only two days after breaking her school record in the 600m.
