Despite two superb performances from High Wycombe teenagers Uzair Amjaid and Saif Zaib, Buckinghamshire County Cricket Club suffered defeat by 21 runs to Wiltshire at Chesham on Sunday to miss out on qualifying for the quarter-finals of Unicorns Trophy.
Victory would have assured Bucks a place in the last eight, and this looked a distinct possibility when they bowled first and dismissed Wiltshire for what appeared a below-par 192.
Leg-spinner Amjaid captured 4-26 from his ten overs as Wiltshire slipped from 111-1 to their eventual total made in 48.4 overs with only opener Qureshi (52) passing 50.
The other wickets fell to Jonathan Denning (1-35), Hamza Riazuddin (1-29), Michael Payne (2-28) and Shelvin Gumbs (2-19).
Zaib, who is on Northants books, led Bucks’ reply with a superb 89 from 111 balls with two sixes and seven fours.
But he lacked support, with only skipper Michael Payne (28) making more than 20 as Bucks were all out for 171 in 45 overs.
While Saif was at the the crease, Bucks had a chance, but he was ninth out at 170 and Bucks lost shortly afterwards, going down by 21 runs.
