Bucks crumble to Suffolk defeat

The visitors made a promising start to the three-day match with opener Shaan Khan scoring a superb 132 from 166 balls while Nick Paskins (57no) and Michael Payne (36) also batted well, but Tom Huggins (5-59) ran through the lower-order as Bucks crumbled from 272-4 to 320 all out in their first innings.

Early wickets for Tom Hampton (3-107) and Matt Rance briefly put Bucks on top with Suffolk wobbling at 45-2, but a brilliant unbeaten double hundred from William Root, brother of England batsman Joe, and Martyn Cull’s 120 helped the home side declare on 448-5, a lead of 128.

Bucks were always struggling in their attempt to save the match as they lost regular wickets, with only George Russell (58) and Rob White (34) passing 20 as Tom Huggins starred again, taking 4-48.

With the visitors all out for 152, Suffolk required just 25 to win and they eased to victory despite losing a wicket to Jonathan Burden.

Bucks will hope to revive their championship campaign in their next game at home to Staffordshire that starts on July 20.
