Go-Tri Tring is a fun way to access triathlon for the first time and is aimed at novice triathletes who want to have a go at a friendly, low-key event.

Organised by local triathlon club Shires Triers, the event takes place on Sunday, October 19 at Green Park Training & Conference Centre near Aylesbury and has the added bonus of the swim being in a heated pool – so no wetsuit is required.

The cycle and run routes are all off-road and distances are small – or what’s known as Super Sprint – the swim is 300m the bike ride is 6km and the run is 2km.

For anybody who isn’t keen on swimming, there is also the option to take part in a duathlon – two runs and a bike ride. Just as challenging as a triathlon, the duathlon distances will be 2km, 6km and 1km.

The cost to enter is £15 for each event, with goody bags and swimming hats provided. Both events can be entered online at www.entrycentral.com/gotriting and for further information visit www.shirestriers.co.uk

Tea and cake will be available after the races, plus the chance to chat with other club members to find out more.

Shires Triers is a local triathlon club that has been running for the last 20 years. Based in and around Berkhamsted, Tring and Hemel Hempstead, the club is made up of athletes aged from 18 up to 60+.

The club offers a wealth of experience, with club coaches on hand to help any novice or experienced athlete taking on the challenge of a triathlon.

There are weekly coached swim sessions at Tring Sportspace, as well as a weekly coached track session at Jarman Park in Hemel Hempstead. Everybody is welcome to go along and enjoy a taster session free of charge.

The club is proud to have people who race across all distances either for fun or more seriously.

Ironman is the longest distance and many members race this annually across the UK and Europe.

One in particular is Claire Doherty – she started triathlon in 2012 not being able to swim front crawl.

Since then she has qualified to compete for GB in the 40 to 44-year-olds’ category and will race at the pinnacle of all triathlon races, Kona in Hawaii, next month.

The club is also offering people the chance to take part in a structured beginners’ swim course, consisting of six one-hour weekly sessions at Tring Sportspace on Monday evenings.

There are six places available at a cost of £20. Please contact the club for further details.
