Aylesbury close in on title after another win

Aylesbury's men's first team require seven points from their final three games to guarantee promotion and the MBBO Regional Two title after a pivotal 4-2 win over British Airways on Saturday.

Aylesbury went behind early on but that only seemed to galvanise the team who responded with goals from top scorer Dan Linders and the in-form Marc Hignell to go into half-time 2-1 up.

Airways drew level early after the restart but Aylesbury fought back and gained all three points thanks to Matt Kiely and man of the match Ollie Hassall.

The victory keeps Aylesbury second but with games in hand over their rivals, they are now favourites for the title. This weekend Aylesbury visit lowly Bracknell.

The club’s second team, meanwhile, travelled to Oxford IVs and ran out comfortable 6-0 winners.

Andy McIntyre hit a hat-trick with a goal apiece from Mike Smith, Max Wilkinson and 13-year-old Owen Heale, and Ady Portlock in goal saved a penalty flick to keep a clean sheet.

The IIIs drew against West Hampstead for the second time this season.

Man of the match Tim Carrington was at his masterful best at the back, prompting a strong defensive showing, while goals from Ali Best and Mike Battye allowed Aylesbury to claim a deserved point.
