An action-packed weekend for the Dacorum & Tring Road Runners

It was another successful weekend for Dacorum & Tring runners, with 35 club members taking part in road and off-road races, triathlons, obstacle challenges and parkruns.

At the challenging off-road Wheathampstead 10k race, Russell Morris finished first for the club in 31st position overall out of 548 runners, in a time of 42:43.

Next was Sam Fawcett, in a speedy time of 43.00, fast enough for first senior lady with a time of 43:00.

Richard Bentley was next in 45:28, followed by Samantha Sullivan in 46:35, John Garner in 48:27, Becky Fawcett in 48:07, Rob Salt in 48:48, Alison Richardson in 50:09 (PB) and Jessica Tanner in 52:45.

Esther Hamilton had a fine first outing at the distance, finishing in 54:29, followed by Katie Rance in 58:54 and Samantha Hawkridge in 1:01.52

Clare Murray and Nicky Henry completed the overnight MoonWalk London – a full 26.2-mile marathon distance power walk around London to raise money for breast cancer in a time of 7h 35mins.

Wendy Pearson and Richard Belsey competed in the Hatfield Tri-Force HSV May sprint triathlon, with Wendy finishing as 10th lady overall and second in the VF40-44 category, while Richard was 14th overall in the VM40-44 age group, in his first ever triathlon.

Wendy completed the swim in 8:04:20, the bike in 46:50:10 and the run in a speedy 21:50:25, while Richard finished in a total time of 1:22:21.

Elsewhere, Matt Hamilton came 16th overall and 11th senior man in the Slateman Savage triathlon, a two-day triathlon challenge held in Snowdonia in Wales.

Matt finished as 14th senior man in the sprint triathlon in a time of 1:22:05, thanks to his 8:01 swim, 43:14 bike and 28:19 run.

In the full distance triathlon the next day, he finished the 1,000m swim in 10:43, the 51km bike in 1:36.00 and the 11km trail run in 1:05:11 for a total time of 2:54:34.

Caroline Smart took her first steps on the road to a Tough Mudder race when she finished the Pretty Muddy 5k muddy obstacle course event at Phasels Woods on Saturday.

The Pretty Muddy series are part of the Cancer Research UK Race for Life series of women-only events.

The club have also had some excellent results at various parkruns this weekend, with lots of PBs, age group first-places, a first overall and a new club parkrun record.

At the new Gadebridge parkrun in Hemel, Andy Cracknell – fresh off his marathon PB of 2hrs 34mins – finished second overall in 18:00 (1st SM30-34) in his first outing at the venue.

Next was young Thomas Ashton, who was 16th overall in a time of 23:23 (2nd JM11-14), and not far behind was Michael Lamb in a new Gadedbridge PB of 23:41.

David Stears was next in a new PB of 23:59 (2nd VM55-59), and Jess Tanner was first lady for D&T, third lady overall in 26.21 and 2nd SW25-29.

The Belsey family were next, with seven-year old Daniel crossing in 29.02 (1st JM10), followed by twin sister Rachel (1st JW10) in 29.34 and dad Richard in 29.37.

Calypso Phillips finished her 137th parkrun in 30:52, Janice Flowers got a new PB of 32:08 (1st VW35-39), Alexis Bunce crossed the line in 25:18 and the run was wrapped up by volunteer Keith Wishart, acting as sweep. Also volunteering were John Jales, Kirsty Russell and Karen Wishart.

At Cassiobury, Paul Christie had a great parkrun debut, finishing as fifth man overall (2nd VM35-39) in 19:35.

Esther Hamilton tried out the Watford run for the first time, finishing in 26:25 while Erica Klein cruised along with a friend to finish her first parkrun in 30:10.

At South Oxhey, Jamie Marlow crossed the line first in a new PB of 17:38, while Duncan Hamilton was second in 19:50. Making it happen were volunteers Michelle Ashwell and Robert Wright.

Sam Burnell was the club’s only runner at the Tring parkrun and he finished in a strong 24:44, fast enough for 2nd JM11-14.

In St Albans, 10-year-old Olivia Edwards was first over the line for the club, in yet another new PB of 21.57 – 1st JW and 8th female. Dad Jonathan finished in 23:08, just eight seconds off his PB
