“There comes a time in every comedian’s life where he ends up doing travelogues," muses Frankie Boyle in his new BBC Two series.

At the age of 47, the red-head Glaswegian is succumbing to the call of the travel series and touring Scotland as he prepares new material for his upcoming tour of the UK.

This isn't a typical light-hearted tour of his homeland, however, with the comedian providing his own twisted slant on the show, always looking at the world through grey-tinted spectacles.

The series gets underway on Friday night (February 7) at 10 pm on BBC Two.

Where in Scotland does he visit in episode one?

Episode one sees Boyle traverse the country from east to west, starting in Aberdeen and finishing in Oban.

During the trip he makes it stops in thriving experimental village Findhorn, before heading to Glen Coe and providing his own unique take on one of the darkest chapters in Scottish history, the Glencoe Massacre.

The comic then makes pit-stops in the idyllic Argyll village of Inveraray and the extraordinary Cruachan Power Station, a turbine hall carved out of solid granite in the heart of the Ben Cruachan mountain.

The first stage of his trip culminates in a ferry trip to the Isle of Mull, followed by a stand up gig in Oban.

Where in Scotland does he visit in episode two?

In episode two the fire-haired comic travels from Edinburgh to Aberdeen, exploring the country's complicated relationship with language.

In Edinburgh he meets with Darren "Loki" McGarvey to discuss the topic and how it shapes who you are, before meeting in affluent Edinburgh neighbourhood, Morningside, with best-selling author Val McDermid.

On his way north, Boyle stays at the Kilmarnock Arms Hotel to explore the Aberdeenshire hotel's links to Dracula. The day after Boyle goes to jail, exploring the Grampian Prison's education wing.

The comedian's trip culminates in a gig in the granite city itself.
