Here's how to update WhatsApp to the latest version after hack sparks security warning


WhatsApp was targeted by an “advanced cyber actor” which exploited a major vulnerability in the messaging app to install spyware.
The company said a “a select number of users” had been chosen by an “advanced cyber actor” in a breach uncovered earlier this month.

Hide AdThe spyware gave hackers the ability to take over the functions of mobile phone operating systems remotely.
WhatsApp said the vulnerability has been fixed, but is urging users to update the app to its most recent version to provide the highest level of security.
Here's how to update your app
A WhatsApp spokesperson said the company was encouraging people to upgrade to the latest version of the app and keep their mobile operating system up to date.
This helps protect against potential targeted exploits designed to compromise information stored on mobile devices.

Hide Ad“We are constantly working alongside industry partners to provide the latest security enhancements to help protect our users,” they added.
If your phone does not have its auto-update setting turned on, you will need to manually update WhatsApp to the latest version of the app.
Here's how to do that on different handsets. Note that updating your app will not cause you to lose any data, such as messages or contacts.

Go to the Play Store, then tap Menu (the three horizontal lines in the top-left corner of your screen).

Tap 'Update' next to WhatsApp Messenger, and the latest version of the app will download and install onto your device.
