Alan Partridge is returning with a new TV talk show

AHA! Steve Coogan's infamous comedy creation Alan Partridge has finally got that second series. Well - sort of.

Twenty-five years after the disastrous, fictional TV host accidentally shot a guest live on his swiftly cancelled show 'Knowing Me, Knowing You', Partridge is returning to the world of chat.

He'll be standing in (temporarily) as co-host on This Time, an evening weekday magazine programme.

Filming on This Time With Alan Partridge began today. And it sounds like it could be an appropriately shambolic send-up of The One Show.

'Equidistant between chitchat and analysis'

Over six episodes later this year, Partridge will be presenting a mix of "consumer affairs, current affairs, viewer interaction, highbrow interview and lightweight froth".

"The perfect fit for a man whose broadcasting style has been described as 'equidistant between chitchat and analysis'," notes the BBC.

Actress Susannah Fielding will portray Alan's onscreen co-presenter Jennie Gresham, while comedian Tim Key returns as sidekick Simon Denton - who also appeared on Sky show Mid Morning Matters and big screen Partridge outing Alpha Papa.

Whether or not Alan will get a second shot at This Time after the first series airs is anyone's guess. But at least long-standing nemesis Tony Hayers is no longer around to thwart him.

This Time With Alan Partridge will air on BBC One later this year
