Work starts on £300,000 Manor Waste revamp in Wendover

Due to take 12 weeks, the scheme will see the area resurfaced, electricity provided to market traders, improved drainage and better accessibilty.

Street furniture will also be replaced and more made of the war memorial.

This includes seating going at right-angles around the memorial and plant beds put in.

The work is being carried out by Richard Ashford Ltd of Aylesbury on behalf of Wendover Parish Council.

Parish clerk Charlotte Hewes said: “It’s been a good few years that the parish council has wanted to carry out this work.

“It is about improving accessibility to the site and making it more attractive for the community. It will be something to be proud of.

“We are grateful to all the shops and businesses who have been very supportive. Also, we have a market on Thursdays and we are working closely with traders to keep that going.”

Aylesbury Vale District Council has donated £213,500 to the scheme via its New Homes Bonus fund.

Mrs Hewes said: “Without the funding from AVDC we would have to look else and apply for a loan. We have some money in the bank which is going towards it, but not that much.”

She added: “We have had a huge increase in footfall in that area. Budgens and the chemists are doing very well.

“When they designed it they weren’t expecting large delivery vehicles and that sort of thing. Wendover has developed, not just the parish but also villages like Halton, Weston Turville and Aston Clinton are having a lot of development. A lot of people come in to Wendover for services so this will benefit them too.”
