Wigs and bald teachers bring on hair-raising fundraiser at school

The first event, Wig Wednesday, was part of the charity’s annual fundraiser that sees thousands of people across the country get wiggy with it by wearing a wig to school or work for the day.

Two daring teachers at the school pledged to both shave their heads if the target of £350 was reached on Wig Wednesday. Pupils and staff rallied round to raise funds and reached their target to ensure Mr Morris and Mr Hall would be going home bald-headed!

After the success of Wig Wednesday, both teachers realised they would be facing the clippers, by taking on The Big Buzz.

After Form 8MCo raised a huge £111 by themselves, one lucky member was awarded the privilege of shaving the heads of maths teacher, Mr Morris, and PE teacher, Mr Hall. Head teacher and Big Wig, Mrs S Jarrett, also joined the assembled students in the playground at lunchtime to show her skill with the clippers!

Psychology teacher, Miss V Jarrett, who organised the events for the school, said: “Taking part in the Big Buzz has been a brilliant experience for the students of Amersham School. It has been brilliant to see just how much out students care about other children and raise money for the incredible charity, CLIC Sargent.”

CLIC Sargent fundraising manager, James McDonald, said: “I would like to thank Mr Morris, Mr Hall and everyone at Amersham School for their outstanding contribution and support of the charity.

“Every day in the UK ten people under the age of 24 hear the shocking news they have cancer. Many will lose their hair during treatment and our campaigns are a great show of solidarity for them.

“Whether you shave your heads or wear a wig for the day, you’re supporting children and young people with cancer and we can’t thank you enough.”
