This is the first time that The Green Man, in Aylesbury’s Market Square has been available for a private buyer, after years as the property of a brewery.

The Green Man played a big part in Aylesbury’s local music scene during the 1970s, as music journalist Kris Needs remembers.

Writing on the Aylesbury Friars website he said: “Lemmy always made a beeline for the fruit machine in the Green Man pub, whose world-revered jukebox was often dominated by Motorhead. The pub was like a Friars satellite, the jukebox chart reflecting who’d been appearing.”

Estate agents Everard Cole has listed The Green Man at £295,000, and say that while it is in need of an upgrade it represents a sound business investment.

The building also has a large two bedroom flat on site, and is Grade II listed within the town centre conservation area.

Estate agent Tom
Nichols said: “We’ve had quite a lot of interest in The Green Man as it’s been owned by one of the main pub companies for some time, so this is the first time it’s been available to have private ownership for some time.

“We would love to see it back in use as a pub.

“We have had some offers so far, but nothing to the level of what we are looking for just yet. It does need some investment, but the new owner will be investing in their own asset, because it is a freehold sale.”

The pub, which has been on the market for around four months is famous in town for hosting live music acts. Previous landlord and landlady Lauren and Liam King carried on the live music tradition.

They also brought with them Pickles and Parker, the pub’s two cats who could often be seen enjoying the ambiance of the bar area with regulars who had known them since they were kittens.
