A village which twice hosted King Henry VIII will be celebrating its history with a new book.

The North Marston History Club, with help of funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund, will be launching The North Marston Story on Saturday.

Covering the history of the village from Roman times, the book also looks at the local history of farming, education and religion.

For centuries North Marston was a major pilgrimage centre.

As well as King Henry VIII, Queen Victoria had an interest in the village after a North Marston landowner left her a bequest of £250,000 with which she built Balmoral Castle.

The history club is now helping to create a village heritage centre.

The book can be purchased at North Marston’s village shop, the bookshop at the University of Buckingham and the Old Gaol bookshop.

It will also soon be available from Amazon.
