Dr Patten has worked at the Luton & Dunstable NHS Foundation Trust for 18 years, starting in the critical care field as a consultant anaesthetist and clinical lead. He then became clinical director of theatres, anaesthesia and critical care before spending three years as the medical director.

Mark, who lives in the region, said: “Having worked in critical care throughout my career, I am delighted to be joining the ambulance service.

“I know the vital role that ambulance staff and volunteers play in saving and changing lives and supporting patients when they need help, care and compassion.

“I look forward to working with colleagues across the service as we look at how we can deliver better care, closer to home for our patients.”
