UPDATED: Waitrose Buckingham cashpoint blown up in raid

Police sealed off the area close to Buckingham's Waitrose store this morning, after thieves broke into a cashpoint.

At about 12.05am two males used an accelerant to blow apart a cash machine in Meadow Walk, High Street next to Waitrose in Buckingham.

An unknown sum of cash was stolen from the machine.

The two offenders were dressed in dark clothing and had their faces covered. It is believed they arrived at and left the scene in a dark-coloured car.

No one was injured.

Investigating officer, PC Greg Price-Jones from Aylesbury CID, said: “There was a report of a loud bang in the area at the time. There were also reports that a dark-coloured car was seen driving around the area just before the incident.

“We would urge anyone who saw or heard anything in the area at the time to contact us as a a matter of urgency via 101 quoting URN 26 of 26/2.”

Councillor Robin Stuchbury said: “The town council did question whether having a freestanding machine, and not one inside the store was a good idea.”
