UPDATE: Pupils to receive support following tragic deaths of schoolfriends Harry and Felicity Hewitt

Harry and Felicity, aged 14 and 17 and from Aylesbury Grammar and Aylesbury High schools respectively, were killed alongside their parents Fiona, 50 and Richard, 52, when a seaplane flight on the last day of their holiday in Canada ended in tragedy.

This week both schools paid tribute to the youngsters, who lived in Milton Keynes.

In a joint statement, headteachers Alan Rosen and Mark Sturgeon remembered Harry and Felicity and their achievements.

The statement read: “Harry was a quiet, humble and unassuming young man who excelled academically, he was a talented squash player and made a hugely positive contribution to the life of the school. He was due to start his GCSE courses in September and had a very bright future ahead of him.

“Felicity was a happy member of the school community.

“She had just completed her first year in the sixth form at Aylesbury High School, and had just gained an excellent set of AS results.

“Her contribution to the wider school was valued by all who knew her. She had an infectious smile and was well liked and respected by all who came into contact with her.

“Both will be missed by everyone within the two schools and the wider community.”

Harry’s Aylesbury Grammar School squash coach Darren Withey, who recently led his team to bronze at the national finals in Manchester also reacted to the terrible news.

He said: “Obviously we are all devastated, the whole school is and pupils will be offered support.

“I’ve spoken to the head and it’s obviously affected all the members of staff that have worked with him too.

“It’s a complete shock, and I don’t think it’s really sunk in.

“I’ve spoken to some of the boys and it’s had a huge impact on everyone on the squash team. I don’t think the full reality of it will potentially kick in until they get back to school and realise there is an empty seat, there were only five 
people on the team and Harry was a massive part of that.”

High School deputy head Nette Hamnett added a personal tribute to Felicity.

She said: “Teachers have expressed that Felicity was a kind and thoughtful young lady who always gave her best in all subject areas.

“She always listened well to others when opinions were being shared and she made many valuable contributions of her own.

“Felicity had a great sense of humour and her quiet determination made her a pleasure to teach.”

In a week of tragic news for Aylesbury Grammar School, Richard Smith, 26, a former student who grew up in Wendover, was named at the weekend as one of eleven people who died in the Shoreham Airshow disaster.

An email from headteacher Mark Sturgeon to Grammar students past and present said: “The School communities of Aylesbury Grammar and Aylesbury High are trying to come to terms with what has happened. The news will come as a great shock to many who knew Richard, Harry, Felicity and their families.

“For the Old Aylesburian community, it is important for us all to remember Richard with fondness and special memories.

“We will keep you informed with any further relevant information as we receive it and we will advise our Aylesburian community in regards to specific memorials and tributes to our two students.

“It is never easy to hear of the loss of a student, past or present, and it is with regret that I have to share this news with you all.”
