TV documentary goes behind the scenes with Thames Valley Police's domestic abuse investigation unit

The force has been working with TV production company True Vision to make a programme called Behind Closed Doors about investigations into domestic abuse offences.

The programme had unprecedented access to the police’s Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit and the victims they are working with and it gives a new insight into the most common violent crime to within the home.

Filmed over the course of a year, and starting from the moment a 999 call is received, the documentary follows three women, who share their experiences to help the public understand the issue of domestic abuse.

The programme airs at 9pm on BBC1 on Monday March 14 and after the broadcast Thames Valley Police will be holding an hour-long online discussion about domestic abuse and the programme itself.

The web chat is an opportunity for members of the community to speak directly to Detective Superintendent Colin Paine, Head of Protecting Vulnerable People and Detective Constable Sam Hunter from the Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit based in Banbury.

They will be able to take questions about the issue and also the police involvement in the making of the programme.
