Tree dedicated during community planting

A community tree planting at Haddington Play Park involved both residents from Haddington Road and Princess Mary Gate Estate took part.

Haddington Road is a military married quarter estate whereas Princess Mary Gate Estate is the new estate that has grown since Princess Mary’s Hospital was demolished.

Wilma Kingsbury, community support officer at RAF Halton and organiser, said: “A total of 12 trees and 20 smaller plants were planted. This included three apple trees and a pear tree, which local children planted for future generations to come. The trees and plants were chosen for shade, interest and to encourage wildlife to the area.

Mr and Mrs Grannon, residents from the estate, planted two trees and dedicated their planting to her father. Mrs Grannon said she hoped that the shade and shelter offered by the trees would benefit all those that use the park. It’s been such a great way to spend an afternoon with the children.”
