Traffic measures put in place in bid to ease Aylesbury congestion as water main repairs enter a third day

The council suspended repairs on critical routes into the town and monitored and adjusted traffic light timings where possible.

Meanwhile, Thames Water operated their temporary traffic lights manually in an effort to ease traffic flow.

Thames Water have been working through the night with the intention of completing the water main repairs by this afternoon (Wednesday).

Most of Aylesbury’s main routes have been affected over the last three days, with roads around the Holiday Inn in Weston Turville among the worst hit.

Peter Finch commutes from Aylesbury to Berkhamsted each day to his job as a horticultural coordinator.

On Monday travelling from Bicester Road to Bedgrove took him three hours, forcing him to take a day’s leave from work as he was unable to get in.

And on Tuesday the journey was only slightly better, taking just under an hour.

He said: “I was waiting in traffic for so long that eventually I pulled over and called my boss and she told me to take some time in lieu, lots of other people must have been in my situation, it was a nightmare.

“The next day it was still bad, something needs to be done.”
