Towersey Festival gets a folk punk twist

Legendary musician and activist Billy Bragg will headline this year's Towersey Festival.

The star, who is famed for songs including A New England and Scousers Never Buy The Sun, will join the likes of Midge Ure, Kate Rusby and The Wonderstuff at the August 26 to 29 event.

Influenced by Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan and the DIY punk scene Bragg’s slot is appropritate, in the year that the punk music genre turns 40.

And another punk star Midge Urge, who appeared alongside Sex Pistols bass player Glen Matlock in The Rich Kids will also appear at the festival.

Witha career spanning the musical landscape, Ure has also appeared in Thin Lizzy, Visage, Silk and wrote and produced the historic Band Aid Do They Know It’s Christmas? song.

And indie disco fans everywhere will love celebrating The Wonderstuff’s 30th anniversary with them.

The band are most famous for songs including Size of a Cow, and Dizzy.

Festival director Joe Heap, said: “We’ve got a great mix of acts this year performing across six stages including at least four chart toppers in Billy Bragg, The Wonderstuff, Midge Ure and Nizlopi.

“There are also some of the biggest names in acoustic and roots music, from the excellent Kate Rusby to the crowd-pleasing Ukelele Orchestra of GB.”
