Alex, who lives in Aylesbury, will be joined by more than 190 JDRF runners who aim to raise over £400,000 to support Type 1 diabetes research.

Alex said: “JDRF is a charity close to my family’s heart. When my cousin’s son was just 18 months old, he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes and is now subject to regular injections.

“I have taught children with Type 1 diabetes in the past and am fully aware of how much it impacts upon their daily lives and want to do my bit to help find a cure.”

For the past seven months, Alex has been training in sun, wind, rain, snow and sleet.

Despite a setback last month, when she injured her hip, she is now back in training after expert help from a physiotherapist.
