Surprise snowfall causes traffic chaos

Thames Valley Police took to Twitter to urge drivers to take care, after around two inches of snow fell overnight.

The force dealt with 39 crashes around their jurisdiction as residents woke up to the unexpected weather conditions.

Many roads came to standstill during the morning rush hour, with delays on B roads including through Wing, and on Bicester Road.

Cars were involved in smashes on routes including Charmfield Road in Aylesbury, the main road through Aston Abbotts and Worminghall Road.

Broughton Lane was badly affected, with two separate collisions where police and ambulance crews had to be called.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 9.24 after a car smashed into a telegraph pole, the road is still partially closed while work is done to make the road safe.

Two other cars were also found in a ditch on Broughton Lane close to the Broughton crossing. No drivers were with the vehicles and police are working to assist with recovery.

Because of the ice and snow authorities closed the A413 near Missenden, which during last year’s cold snap was the scene of a fatal crash.

Councillor John Harvey took to Twitter to ask why “90% of main internal roads in Aylesbury gritted and no main internal Buckingham roads gritted?”

But Transport For Bucks tweeted back advising Mr Harvey that all main roads in Buckingham had been gritted.

Despite the weather all primary and secondary schools in the Vale remain open.
