The scent of roses and sweet peas greeted visitors to the Kimble and Ellesborough Horticultural Society’s Summer show.
Entries were well down on previous shows as were the number of visitors on show day, held at the Stewart Hall, Little Kimble, on Sunday, July 3.
Nevertheless, organisers reported that the standard of exhibits were of high standard despite the very variable weather over the last few weeks and the display was very colourful.
The trophy for most points in the show overall was won by David Ridgeway.
Rod Pengelly virtually swept the board in the rose classes including best exhibit in show and most points in the rose classes.
Kathy Gray won the cup for most points in the sweet pea classes and best sweet pea exhibit.
Graham Talbot won the master class and Sue Towersey won two floral art classes and window box.
The society holds its autumn show on Sunday, September 4.
The society meetings are held at 8pm every first Tuesday of the month (except January and August) at the Stewart Hall. It welcomes expert speakers, and all talks are very informal and are followed by refreshments and a raffle.
Visitors are always welcome to meetings. If you decide you would like to join please make yourself known to any committee member or contact Michael Hopkins, membership secretary, at email@example.com
