Pets As Therapy

A charity that helps lonely people through working with pets is urging people to raise funds as they shop.

Fundraisers for Pets as Therapy in Buckinghamshire say you can raise money simply by doing their normal shopping through a website that helps them donate as they spend.

The charity, dedicated to working with dogs and cats to combat loneliness within the community, has been providing therapeutic visits to those in need since 1983.

Thanks to a committed team of volunteers in the UK there are 5,000 dogs and over 200 cats helping vulnerable people in hospitals, hospices, special needs schools and care homes all over the UK.

Relying heavily on donations to keep the scheme up and running fundraising plays an integral part towards Pets as Therapy’s success.

To help their fundraising mission the charity is registered on, a free service which aids small causes to reach their cash objectives. People who want to donate can simply choose to do their everyday shopping via the website, and after purchasing the retailer will give cash rewards that can be turned into a donation.

All funds received help to bring the love of a furry friend to those in need. The charity also offers a beautifully unique service to children in schools who lack confidence with their reading - allowing them to read a storybook to a Pets as Therapy dog without feeling judged by their performance - something which has proved incredibly successful with around 6,000 children now reading to dogs every week across the UK.

Cheryl Tissot, activity CEO for the charity, said: “ has really helped us with our fundraising mission goals. The additional funds needed will help us provide more support nationally, and will really make a difference to the day-to-day work of our charity. We’d urge anyone who is interested in helping out to visit the easyfundraising site while doing their shopping.”

Caroline Adams, head of marketing for easyfundraising, said: “We are so glad to have been able to help Pets as Therapy, and we’d like to thank everyone who took the time to donate through our site for this cause. Local charities are extremely important in the community, and without funding, it would be difficult for all this important work to be carried out.”

So far, has raised over £9 million for causes throughout the UK.
