Serving police officer charged with computer misuse offences

A serving Thames Valley Police officer has been charged with computer misuse and data protection offences.

PC Matthew Oaten, 29, was today charged with two counts of computer misuse and two counts of breaching the Data Protection Act.

The alleged offences, some of which are said to have taken place while PC Oaten was on-duty, happened between February 2013 and May this year.

PC Oaten, who works in Banbury, is scheduled to appear at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on November 5 this year.
