Well now there is an easy way to raise money for the cutest charity in Buckinghamshire,

The charity, which is based in Haddenham has teamed up with soft drinks brand Belvoir, which has offered to donate £1 for every bottle cap they receive to Tiggys.

Tim Moran, operations manager for Tiggywinkles, said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have the support of Belvoir in our quest to save the hedgehog.

“With over 3,000 of these prickly mammals coming through our doors each year, the £5,000 target would be a huge boost to our life-saving work.

“We encourage all our supporters to go out and buy a bottle or two of Belvoir cordial. Not only are they
delicious, but by sending a bottle top, you will be helping to save the lives of sick, injured or orphaned hedgehogs.”

Tiggywinkles has been treating sick and injured wild animals since 1978, and all animals that can not be re-released are given a home at the charity’s visitor centre.

But with much of the hedgehog’s natural hedgerow habitat rapidly disappearing, the work of Tiggywinkles is stepping up a pace to help save the prickly garden visitor.

A spokesman for Belvoir, said: “The snuffling of
hedgehogs in hedgerows at dusk used to be a familiar sound in British gardens and countryside, but sadly with much of their natural habitat disappearing, and securely
enclosed gardens making it difficult for them to pass from place to place, these prickly balls of sweetness are becoming a rare thing to see.”

Since the Second World War the UK’s hedgerows have declined due to removal to increase field size and make way for development.

There is currently only about 450,000km of hedgerow left.

The Belvoir spokesman added: “The widespread loss of the traditional hedgerows is believed to be the reason behind the decline of the hedgehog.

“In a recent survey there were thought to be less than one million hedgehogs living in this country today.”
