A bumper petition urging Bucks County Council to rethink planned demolition works at Aylesbury’s old police station has been handed in.

Campaigners Jonathan Gilpin, George Entecott and Karl Vaughan delivered the petition to council leader Martin Tett on Tuesday.

The document, which has been signed by 2,165 people, calls for the council to look at ways to preserve the building, part of which could be turned into a car park as part of the Waterside North scheme.

Mr Gilpin, who has previously spoken of his wish to turn the station into a high end bar and restaurant for theatre goers, said: “Ten times more people have signed this petition to save the building than have contributed to the Waterside North consultation. Far more members of the public have disagreed with the council and they need to listen to what people are saying.”
