The 53 year old left Wendover a year ago and moved to Devon because of HS2 which was due to come within a stone’s throw of the studio in Rocky Lane where he worked for 16 years.

But Mr Sinclair, who co-owns The Sculpture School and also curated the highly-successful Great British Sculpture Show at Hatfield House in 2014, has now pledged to make a comeback for his hero Bowie.

“I would simply love to win the commission to build the statue in Market Square for an icon such as David Bowie,” he said.

“I was sad to leave the Aylesbury area after so many years, so it would be great to be able to return to work on such a brilliant project.

“The town really does need to celebrate its connection to this superstar and to the Ziggy Stardust album which was debuted here, and I’d be so honoured if I was the sculptor asked to do this.”

Mr Sinclair has already sculpted famous German rapper Sido and Colin Baker of Doctor Who fame. Baker said: “He has the knack of imbuing his subjects with vitality, character and life.”
