Police misconduct hearings will now be published online by Thames Valley Police.
The outcomes of hearings involving officers and staff will be published on the force website each month, basis and will include details of the standard which has been breached, basic details of the breach, and the misconduct outcome.
Thames Valley Police has also developed clear guidance on the publication of complaints, misconduct cases, criminal investigations and Independent Police Complaints Commission referrals. This will mean that officers or employees dismissed from the force for gross misconduct will be publicly named. In cases where there is a compelling reason not to name the officer or employee, for example victim impact, the Deputy Chief Constable will have the final decision on whether the officer’s name is withheld.
Deputy Chief Constable Francis Habgood said: “It is important, for public confidence in policing, that Thames Valley Police is open and accountable about misconduct proceedings involving officers, staff, specials and volunteers and that our staff know there is a clear and consistent approach in communicating information about professional standards issues.
“The vast majority of officers, staff, specials and volunteers who work for Thames Valley Police act with integrity and professionalism at all times. However, where conduct falls below the high standards expected by the Force and the public they will be dealt with firmly.
