Police put focus on rural crime as part of action week

The Aylesbury Vale Neighbourhood Team are holding the rural crime action week from Monday September 8 to Sunday September 14.

The week of action aims to combat rural crime with the neighbourhood team working with rural communities and giving them crime prevention advice to help prevent them becoming a victim of crime.

In addition to normal policing activities, the neighbourhood policing team will be carrying out a series of farm visits, door knocks in rural areas, offering tack marking, tool and bike security marking at a series of crime prevention and reduction events and high visibility patrols and operational activities to target known offenders.

A rural crime tweetathon takes place on Wednesday from 8am until 11pm.

The tweetathon will aim to highlight rural policing activities and work undertaken by officers.

The team will be carrying out the following activities alongside proactive night time operations:

Monday - free property and tack marking will be offered and officers will be accompanied by the mounted section.

The event will run from 9:30am in the Public Hall car park, Elmfield Road, Winslow.

Wednesday – crime prevention and reduction event with free quad bike marking.

Officers will be attending properties in Waddesdon village seeking out insecure premises and vehicles in order to alert owners of the different crime prevention tips they can follow.

Thursday - free property and tool marking event from 10am until 1pm in Longmoor Farm, Kingswood Lane, Kingswood.

Saturday - Emergency services open day from 10am until 5pm in front of Waddesdon Manor in the High Street.

Officers will be accompanied by the fire, ambulance and other emergency services.

As this event coincides with the Heritage Day, there will be free entry for members of the public to the Waddesdon Manor and surrounding grounds.

Friday - Have Your Say meetings from 10.30am until 12.30pm at Brown’s, Gawcott Road and Cox & Robinson’s, Brackley Road, Buckingham.

Officers will be giving crime prevention advice and marking property free of charge.

Insp James Davies said: “This week of action aims to combat rural crime and raise awareness of vital crime prevention advice, to prevent people becoming a victim of crime.

“We will be aiming to deter and disrupt criminal activity, prevent rural crime offences and inform communities of how best to protect themselves from rural crime. “We are also keen to improve confidence in the rural communities to ensure any suspicious activity is reported to police so that we may act on information at the earliest opportunity.

“I would like to urge residents to report rural crime offences and anything suspicious to us immediately as soon as you see anything suspicious, this will give us a better chance of catching people committing rural crime offences.

“The tweetathon will be a great opportunity to highlight policing activity in rural locations; our responses to incidents, key crime prevention advice and different types of rural crime offences.”
