Plans for Aylesbury 'Gardenway' revealed

Encircling Aylesbury, the Gardenway will deliver an 18 km long orbital park of fully connected green and blue infrastructure, local parks, woodlands, play grounds, community gardens, natural areas, waterways and heritage sites.

The project is a community led project, which aims to encourage play, active lifestyles, food growing and outdoor leisure as well as being a haven for wildlife.

It also forms a key deliverable of the town’s future 'walking and cycling network', set out in the Aylesbury Garden Town Local Cycling and Walking Plan (LCWIP), connecting ‘greenway’ spurs which link Aylesbury with surrounding villages, enabling a much wider population to enjoy the Gardenway.

Councillor Steve Bowles, Chairman Aylesbury Garden Town Board, said:

"Aylesbury Garden Town has set a transformational vision for Aylesbury and the Garden Way is one of the Garden Town’s transformative projects.

"The Garden Way will create a linear park of connected green spaces surrounding Aylesbury.

"It will deliver a fully connected green and blue infrastructure corridor which encompasses the town, connecting local parks, woodlands, playgrounds, community gardens, natural areas, waterways and heritage sites.

"It is envisaged it will become a focus for not only for local residents but also visitors to the town and encourage outdoor play sports and leisure.

"Having Garden Town status gives Aylesbury a national profile. I am looking forward to working with the team, residents, partners and our stakeholders as we continue to progress

the amazing work involved in delivering this ambitious project."

The council say: "The Gardenway is more than just a new piece of green infrastructure; it will become a destination point for local residents and visitors alike, encourage outdoor play, sports and leisure and be a haven for wildlife.

"It will be designed to be fully accessible for cyclists and wheelchair/mobility impaired users (building on the town’s Paralympic legacy), and will connect with the town-wide walking and cycling network and Greenway routes into the countryside (such as the Waddesdon Greenway from Aylesbury Vale Parkway train station to Waddesdon Manor)."
