Picture Special: Another record-breaking year for Tour de Vale

A record breaking 2,071 people turned out for the event on Sunday, which was organised by WheelPower – the national charity for wheelchair sport.

Riders had the choice of 25, 60 and 100 kilometre routes which wound right through the Vale’s countryside after all started and finished at Stoke Mandeville Stadium.

Jo Hall, from WheelPower, said: “Over the past few years the riders have enjoyed several developments to the ride, including the new 100k route this year and additions such as chip timing and the offer of a free massage at the end of the ride.

“But one thing that has not changed since we first started the Tour de Vale 12 years ago is the tremendous support we have from the local community.

“Thank you to everyone that has taken part for the all funds you have raised in sponsorship, it enables WheelPower to make a huge difference to the lives of disabled people.

“We would also like to applaud all the volunteers and organisations that dedicate their time to making this event a huge success as without them this event would not be possible.”

Graham Bassett, from Upton near Aylesbury, completed the 60k route and said of his experience: “It was very good indeed, very scenic.

“I did the 25k route two years ago, so I have just stepped it up and hopefully next year will be the 100k.

“I really enjoyed and it’s all for a very worthy cause.”
