After a bric-a-brac and cake sale, a raffle and the sale of Christmas decorations made by the residents of the Abbeyfield Sheltered Housing in Wendover, the Residents Committee decided to split the proceeds between the Residents Fund and the Royal Air Force Association, RAFA.

And this week Derf Mockford, RAFA branch chairman, Sqn Ldr Dean Gibson, a RAFA Trustee, his wife, Ali, Flt Lt Andy Furlong and Cpl Andy Flanagan, both from Recruit Training Squadron, went along to a coffee morning at Abbeyfields to celebrate.

Sqn Ldr Gibson said: “The residents were delighted to see us, they always are.

"Ali and I are regular visitors, and have been since we became a ‘befriender’ to a resident, Gerald, who passed away in April.

"Though Gerald has passed away, we have continued to visit every couple of weeks or so, and over the summer and early autumn tidying the rear garden, trimming trees and putting the garden furniture away for winter, etc.”

Spokesperson for the Residents Fund, Beryl Hunter, said: “We expect the amount raised to be over £350.”
