Rennie Grove Hospice Care launches new cycling event which gives cyclists the chance to take in the beautiful scenery and help raise money for the charity.

The event in June is open for both beginner and experiences cyclists and will take riders through the local areas where the charity's nurses regularly work.

Rennie Grove Hospice Care provides specialist care and support for adults and children with a life-limiting illness in west Hertfordshire and Bucks through the hospice at home service, available day and night, and a range of day services.

The event will be held virtually over three consecutive weekends beginning on 12-13 June.

The route for each of the three legs of the Tour will be based in an area of Buckinghamshire or west Hertfordshire that the charity’s nurses drive every day while delivering vital hospice at home care for people with life-limiting illnesses.

Senior Challenge and Events Fundraiser Emily Elvin, said: “We love the idea of people cycling along the roads that our nurses use every day.

"We hope it will give our fundraisers and supporters some perspective on the miles that our nurses cover to deliver our care every day of the year.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for people to raise much-needed funds for Rennie Grove, while enjoying a challenging summer event cycling through our beautiful local scenery.

"We’re encouraging cyclists of all levels and ability to take part, from beginners to seasoned riders.”

Each route will be approximately 50 miles in length, and riders are able to choose to do one leg or the full tour. The registration fee per leg is £10, or £25 for the entire tour. Participants will also receive the first ever Tour de Rennie Grove branded cycling jersey.

The charity is asking cyclists to aim to raise £1 per mile cycled, but there is no limit and it is encouraging people to raise as much as they can.

For every £50 raised almost 2 hours of care will be funded so it really will be making a difference.

Those who reach their fundraising target will also receive a medal to celebrate their achievement.

Emily added: “We’re confident that our supporters will smash their fundraising targets and aim even higher.

"The more we raise, the more hours of nursing care we can fund throughout the local community.”

Money raised from the Tour de Rennie Grove will help ensure that the charity can continue to provide its care.

Patient numbers have risen steadily throughout the pandemic but income has declined as charity shops have been closed and many community fundraising activities have been unable to take place.

Local company Origin is this year’s headline sponsor for the event.

The first leg of the Tour de Rennie Grove will take place on 12-13 June, with the second leg on 19-20 June and the third on 26-27 June. Registration will remain open until 11 June.
