UK Powernetworks put the outages down to 'two separate faults' in their network - and while they were investigating what caused those - they discovered another fault.

They said: "We had every intention of restoring supplies and confirmed with our engineers that we had successfully restored power, though unfortunately it didn't hold and the power went off again which is why there were blackouts during the evening.

"There were initially two seperate faults on the network and when we tried to redirect the supply, we discovered another fault.

"We are sorry that this has happened."

The cuts affected homes and business across Aylesbury Town Centre, but also Watermead and Buckingham Park housing estates.

Chloe Higgs, who wrote to the Herald said she had experienced two blackouts during the day and another in the evening.

She said: "It was so inconvenient - especially for those like me who are getting up early in the morning to get ready for work - and then coming home to try and go about having a normal nightly routine.

"I just wanted to get in, cook dinner, watch a bit of TV and have a shower but unfortunately because of the blackouts I couldn't.

"It's so hard to live without power, heat and light!"

Power is now up and running again in Aylesbury.
