Rennie Grove re-invents its much-loved Chilterns 3 Peaks Challenge

Rennie Grove Hospice Care is making sure that all those who love to take part in its Chilterns 3 Peaks Challenge will not miss out on enjoying the stunning Chilterns countryside this summer by re-inventing the popular annual charity walk to keep everyone safe.

For one year only, the newly named Chilterns 2 Peaks Challenge, which will take place on Sunday, September 13, will be inviting walkers to choose either an 8 or 12 mile circular route, taking in one or two ‘peaks’.

The 8 mile walk follows the Ridgeway Trail and takes in the beautiful sights of Whiteleaf Cross before wending its way back to Princes Risborough, while the 12 mile route also includes the second ‘peak’ of Coombe Hill.

As well as the opportunity to clock up their steps, absorb miles of rolling landscape in the company of friends or family and raise vital funds for Rennie Grove, those taking part will be offered activity packs to help them make the most of their day.

A special family activity pack, perfect for the children, will include a scavenger hunt and word search.

Adults will get a pack too, their one will include information about sites of interest and historical landmarks, birds to spot and how to enter the Chilterns 2 Peaks photo competition.

To mark this one-off event and the unusual circumstances of this year, participants will also receive a special 2020 commemorative medal.

Those taking part can choose to wear their Chilterns 3 Peaks t-shirt from previous years or take advantage of the opportunity to buy a special commemorative t-shirt when they sign up.

Both routes start and finish from Princes Risborough School where parking will be available.

Tracey Hancock, director of fundraising at Rennie Grove, said: “We’re very proud of how successful this event has been since it launched in 2009 and because we know it is well-loved, we really wanted to adapt it this year to ensure participants can still enjoy the countryside in the safest way possible.

"We’re delighted to invite walkers of all ages to take on our Chilterns 2 Peaks Challenge, including four-legged friends!

"Why not walk it as a family, or get together with friends, staying safely socially distanced, and enjoy some time together in the great outdoors?

“We hope the adapted event will be just as popular as we have been hit hard financially by the pandemic.

"Many of our community fundraising activities have been cancelled which has meant a sharp drop in the income we rely on to deliver our services for local families.

"So we hope that people will sign up and get fundraising.

"By raising just £28.50 you could fund an hour of specialist nursing care in patients’ homes and in return you will receive an iconic medal.

"Or join together as a family and raise £215 to cover a shift for one of our specialist hospice at home nurses.

"We need support now more than ever and I hope everyone will find this a really enjoyable way to help out.”

Rennie Grove Hospice Care gives local patients with life-limiting illness a choice about how and where they receive care towards the end of life. The hospice provides specialist responsive 24/7 Hospice at Home care for adults and children in Bucks and Herts

Tickets cost £15 per adult and £7.50 per child. A family ticket (2 adults and up to 4 children) costs £40.
