Speaking at the Fairford Leys playing fields which is set to be decimated by HS2, Mr Butler said: "We do not want HS2 in this part of the country.

"The people of Aylesbury have been very clear - there's no economic case for HS2 - there's no environmental case for HS2 and overall, it just costs way too much money.

"That's money that could be far better invested in infrastructure in the North of England. It will bring towns and communities closer together, so people can get from one side of the country to the other without the hassle and inconvenience and the delays they currently face.

"Here in Aylesbury, we'd like to see a bit of that money going on roads. Particularly in the form of a link road around the Aylesbury Town itself.

"We've had massive decelopment in this area, we've had lots more houses and a new road would really help with our infastructure needs.

"so let's can HS2 and instead spend the money in a much more sensible and intelligent way"
