Rob Butler, MP for Aylesbury, said: “Following my question to the Prime Minister in the House of Commons last week urging work on HS2 to stop during the coronavirus crisis, the Chief Executive of HS2 Ltd wrote to me personally to tell me that work in the majority of sites would be paused.

"Ever since, I have been asking whether that includes in my constituency – in Wendover, Stoke Mandeville and Fairford Leys.

"There has been no reply from HS2 Ltd.

“In contrast, I have received emails on a daily basis from residents who can see contractors continuing to work, continuing to flout the government rules on social distancing, and so

continuing to put lives at risk. This must stop now.

“HS2 Ltd told me “The health, safety and wellbeing of the communities along the route of the new railway remains our absolute priority alongside that of our staff.” My response is simple:

actions speak louder than words. Send your staff home.”
