General Election 2019: Aylesbury new Tory MP says he WILL defy Government and vote against HS2

Aylesbury newly crowned MP Rob Butler has told the Herald this morning that he will vote against the HS2 scheme.

Previous Conservative MP David Lidington faced criticism from the electorate for failing to support them on the issue, as he was bound by collective responsibility due to various high profile Government jobs.

But new MP Mr Butler says he will stand on the side of the people of Aylesbury, and oppose the scheme fully in Parliament.

He said: "I’m absolutely delighted with the result.

"It’s been a hard campaign in the middle of winter - it’s an election nobody wanted.

"It’s pretty clear from the results tonight that people want Boris Johnson’s deal.

HS2 is the biggest issue facing our constituency.

“That’s been made clear on several occasions on the doorsteps around the Vale.

“My promise to residents that I will always vote in the interests of our constituents.

“Even if that means me defying the Whip in votes on HS2.

“HS2 has no environmental or economic case. I will he raising this when we arrive in parliament next week.

“Regarding Brexit, I am a leader and I believe Britain’s future is better served outside the EU.

“Control of our borders, money, trade should be in our hands.”
