EDITOR'S COLUMN: It's time for us all to do our bit to stop coronavirus in its tracks

On Monday life in Aylesbury Vale and the UK changed significantly, for a while at least.

In an effort to stifle the coronavirus pandemic the Government has imposed lock down regulations that the whole nation must follow, that can be enforced by the police.

People MUST follow these rules in order to save lives and prevent our NHS from becoming overwhelmed as the pandemic escalates.

At the time of going to press there were currently 45 known cases of the coronavirus in Buckinghamshire, but as not everyone showing symptoms is being tested, that figure is likely to be far higher.

Here are the measures that every citizen is required to follow for the next three weeks at least:

You must stay at home unless to do one of the following things:

Shopping - although this must be done as infrequently as possible.

One form of exercise a day, but that must be alone or with a family member you are living with only.

Travelling to and from work, but only if absolutely necessary and working from home is impossible.

For medical or care needs, or to support a vulnerable person.

If everyone follows these rules the Government says we can stop coronavirus in its tracks and save lives. It is vitally important that we all step up at this time and do the right thing.
