The mayor said that he hopes that the 300 capacity church will be full to bursting for the big event.

He said: “I was talking to Fran from Youth Concern about fundraising, and I want this to be a ‘fun’ fundraising event.

“I’ve seen the Dung Beatles before, and I know they do a brilliant show, and St Mary’s is such a beautiful place, so atmospheric and the accoustics are amazing so we know it’s going to be a great night.”

And speaking about why he has chosen Youth Concern to be his charity of the year, the mayor added: “I’ve got two kids aged 19 and 22, they’ve had a good life and lucky breaks and support but there are other kids of that kind of age that are really struggling with things that they shouldn’t have to struggle with.
